Facilities consist of Mooipan Lodge which is a luxury lodge that comfortably sleeps 14 people. Although this thatched roofed lodge offers all modern conveniences including air conditioning and swimming pool, it’s design is such that it does not detract from the rustic surroundings and the visitor can truly experience the African bushveld.
A bushveld bar and lapa combines to create attractive surroundings where guests may relax with a refreshing drink in the African sun, or experience the sounds of the African bushveld by night while staring into the flames of an open campfire.
Zyferbult Lodge offers rustic accommodation amongst spectacular large trees. It’s site elevation ensures great views in all directions. This lodge sleeps six guests , blends in with it’s surroundings and offers all modern conveniences.
Tambotie Camp has an architecturally award winning design and offers the true safari experience. Enjoy the ambience of tents, kerosene lighting and open fire cooking with the convenience of a hot shower from a wood burning geyser.
Mooipan Lodge, Zyferbult Lodge and Tambotie Camp lies near Steenbokpan, in the Limpopo Valley, 50km west of Lephalale (Ellisras). Covering an area of approximately 2000ha (5000 acres), this is pristine hunting area in the heart of the bushveld.
The area is classified as a dry zone, with an average rainfall of some 450mm per year. Average day temperature during the winter hunting season is 15’C with cold mornings and nights. The rainy season encompasses the hot summer months between October and April.
Limpopo Valley is sweet bushveld with sandy soil and a variety of large trees including Marula, Camel thorn, Knob thorn, Monkey Acacia,Leadwood, Sheppards Tree and Tamboti. The veld is relatively open with enough natural cover to facilitate easy hunting while walking and stalking. No internal fences exist and no cattle are kept on Mooipan or Zyferbult.
A total of 10 water points are fed by boreholes. This includes 4 pans where water naturally gathers in the rainy season, while being supplemented in winter from the boreholes. These are the best spots for game watching and bird spotting at dawn or just before sunset.
A number of natural predators, including occasional leopard and cheetah, can be found on the Ranch. Resident species include Brown Hyena, Caracal, Jackal and a number of the smaller nocturnal cats.
Game numbers are monitored annually by helicopter. A scientifically sound utilization program is determined accordingly, with the aid of ecological consultants. This includes hunting during the winter months as well as capture when necessary.
A dedicated shooting range facility with bench for sighting rifles is available.
Most bushveld birds are found on Mooipan and Zyferbult well over 100 different species having been spotted. Apart from the common sight of hornbills, raptors are often seen and the calls of guinea fowl and francolin are ever present at dusk and dawn.
Nowhere else in the world are the stars quite as bright as they are in the African sky, far away from city lights.
